The first weekend of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia 2024 goes to the archives in the name of Ten Voorde (above all and as predicted) and of the Masters (his debut as an official Q8 Hi Perfrom was excellent. A weekend, that of Misano, which clarified unequivocally the importance, which has grown enormously in recent years and even more so this year, of being prepared and focused on even the smallest detail.
The qualifications and the two races on the Romagna circuit have in fact rewarded the most “ready” drivers, those who, in the darkness of free practice and race 1, as well as in qualifying and race 2, immediately “clicked”. Everyone expected it from Ten Voorde, even if nothing is ever taken for granted in motor racing and, talent aside, only the perseverance at work once again shown by the Dutch ace of Fulgenzi Racing makes what in reality it is not.
From others, read Masters, already a fast driver but now “signed” playing strength in the chase for the title (before winning it, you have to believe in it), or even the new ones (albeit already with certain levels of experience) Braschi and Zendeli or some very young people for sure prospectus, something more has arrived than the most optimistic expectations.
Perhaps some of them will not even agree, because they would have wanted to further embellish their respective weekend, but this very aspect represents, if anything, a symptom of “being ready”. A separate discussion can be made for Iaquinta, with the driver of First Ghinzani ran into a weekend this time probably just unlucky in the episodes after excellent qualifying.
Imola will be a bit of a litmus test for him and also for all the others who will have to look for an immediate revenge. Because the Porsche Italia single-make championship is more competitive and hard-fought than ever (you really travel at the devil’s pace!) and mistakes or carelessness are now banned if you want to fight at least for the top-5.
Certainly in June for some the general feeling with the new season will also grow, because after all a debut like the one in Misano can also make history in itself. Naturally including the protagonists of the Michelin Cup, where the initially expected values underwent a small, big revolution on the track for the most varied reasons.
Misano is just the beginning, Imola will not be a definitive but certainly important hub for the fate of the season.
