Not a good start to 2024 for Apple and now IDC data is available which shows how merciless the smartphone market has been with iPhones. In fact, the data indicates that Apple is second in terms of device shipments in the first quarter of the year, but with a decline of 9.6% year-on-yearthe worst among the companies examined.
It is in fact indicated that Samsung is at the top of the list, with 60.1 million units versus Apple's 50.1 million. Samsung fell 0.7%, but Apple fell 9.6%. OPPO, in fifth position, saw a drop of 8.5%, still negative but not as much as Apple.
One of the factors that contributed to the drop in Apple's results are the poor sales on the Chinese market. Chinese rivals have offered high-performance smartphones and Beijing has banned the use of foreign devices in the workplace. If we also add a boost of patriotism from Chinese buyers, it is easy to understand why the iPhone 15 has not achieved significant results.
The growth of the smartphone market
In contrast, Xiaomi achieved a notable increase of 33.8%, placing over 40 million units in the first quarter. The real growth, however, is that of Transsionwhich according to the data reports a huge +84.9% for a total of 28.5 million smartphones shipped.
All in all, the smartphone market has grown at the beginning of 2024 by 7.8%, which makes it even more evident that there has been a serious decline in Apple and OPPO.
