In the last edition of the Belgian Grand Prix, theAlpine shocked everyone with the exit of the then Team Principal, Otmar Szafnauer, together with the Technical and Sporting Director of the team, roles held respectively by Par Fry and Alan Permane. The failed start to the 2024 seasonwith qualifying in the last row and the race in Bahrain finishing in 17th and 18th place, led to further resignations in the French team during the championship in progress (as well as just starting), once again by the Technical Director, Matt Harman , and the head of aerodynamics Dirk de Beer.
While waiting for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, scheduled for this weekend, the Enstone manufacturer has once again revolutionized its program with the hiring of three new roles of technical directorseach responsible for a specialized area and in a replacement for Harman. Specifically, the sectors on which Alpine will focus to recover from a disastrous start to the championship will be those relating to performance, aerodynamics and engineering.
In the press release released by the transalpine team, Alpine thus formalized the entry of Ciaron Pilbeam as Technical Director of Performancewith Joe Burnell for theEngineering And David Wheater for theAerodynamics. The new team will begin collaboration with the technical director of the power unit Eric Meignan, in this case confirmed in his role. At the same time, the work of John Woods in Enstone and Audrey Vastroux in Viry will continue as operational directors.
“We decided to make these organizational changes because we clearly see that we are not where we want or need to be in terms of performance, and it's time to take another step forward in terms of organization and people – explained the team principal Bruno Famin – the new three-pillar structure with three Technical Directors, each specializing in different areas, will improve the work and collaboration between our technical areas and help ensure performance from the factories to the track. I have full confidence in Joe, David and Ciaron's ability to work closely together to ensure the team delivers the performance and improvements it needs. Finally, I would like to thank Matt and Dirk for their commitment to the team over the past two years and wish them all the best in the next chapter of their careers.”
