A Sun powered by an electric car? It happened in Norway in one of the darkest areas of the country (which by its nature enjoys very little natural light in winter) thanks to an exclusive Kia installation created in collaboration with the experiential design studio VOID and the creative agency Innocean . The secret lies in a 5-metre LED disk powered by a Kia EV9 to demonstrate the power capabilities of the EV9's Vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology, as well as highlight the importance of natural light. “The EV9 is an exciting car not only on the move, but also when stationary, thanks to innovative features such as bi-directional charging,” explains David Hilbert of Kia Europe. “This technology can expand the role of electric vehicles in our lives, whether camping, providing power for a mobile office, or even being part of the widespread electrical grid with Vehicle-to-Grid technology.”
The artificial sun could be seen from several kilometers away
The light installation was set up at the Rampton campsite which is located on a fjord 35 kilometers south-west of Oslo. A picturesque beach with a small island in front, it seemed like the perfect place to replicate the sunrise along the coast. Once illuminated, the artificial sun could be seen from several kilometers away. For its part, the EV9 traveled from Oslo to Rampton, then powered the LED disc for twenty-four hours and returned to Oslo without worries in terms of autonomy. By fusing cutting-edge technology and artistic expression, we have created an installation that not only captures the essence of the Kia brand, but also responds to real-life challenges,” said Gabriel Mattar, COO of Innocean. “With this project we continue to push the limits of creativity and innovation, always with the aim of inspiring others.”
EV9 as a mobile charging station
Kia Smart Charge brings electric vehicle energy use into the age of sustainability with bi-directional charging. This allows energy to flow in both directions: into and out of the vehicle. V2L technology, introduced for the first time with the Kia EV6 and available as standard with the EV9, therefore allows you to power 110V/220V appliances with the EV9's 99.8 kWh battery by connecting the cable to the vehicle's charging port.
