White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre briefing On February 6, she was unable to answer a question about the visit of American journalist Tucker Carlson to Russia and his possible interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which was prevented by the US administration. She harshly and categorically repeated several times that there were no comments on this topic.
One of the journalists asked that Carlson confirmed the possibility of an interview with the Russian president so that Americans would learn the truth about the Ukrainian conflict in which they are involved. He clarified that in a previous video on his blog, Tucker described how the US government tried to interfere with his plans to interview Putin.
When the journalist mentioned the American administration, Jean-Pierre became wary and asked what he had just said.
“He [Такер] said the Joe Biden administration allegedly tried to prevent him from interviewing Vladimir Putin. Do you have any comments on this?” — the correspondent asked a question.
When Jean-Pierre replied categorically, “No, absolutely not,” the journalist clarified that the White House press secretary had no comment or would not confirm that Tucker’s statement was true.
“Absolutely no comments, that’s all,” Jean-Pierre replied.
On February 6, American journalist Tucker Carlson posted on his website an announcement of an interview with Vladimir Putin. According to him, he wants to inform people about what is happening in this way. Most Americans remain ignorant about the conflict in Ukraine and do not understand the events taking place in the region, he added.
In a conversation with Izvestia, the American journalist joked about the upcoming interview, saying that he had not heard anything about Vladimir Putin, but admitted that he was fascinated by the architecture of Moscow and would like to visit Siberia and St. Petersburg.
On February 5, Carlson commented on the possibility of an interview with Putin, briefly saying, “We’ll see.”
Moreover, the next day, a car, probably with the filming equipment of an American journalist, drove into the territory of the administration of President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The footage shows how equipment is first loaded into a car in a hotel parking lot. Carlson himself is not in these shots; his assistants are loading the equipment.
Carlson first flew to Russia on February 3. Then the American media suggested that the purpose of his visit to Moscow was an interview with Putin. The journalist himself explained his trip with the desire to “talk to people and see how everything works.”
The journalist's visit to the Russian Federation caused a mixed reaction in the United States. In addition, member of the US House of Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene said that American authorities are afraid of the journalist’s possible interview with Putin. At the same time, she noted that Americans “hear the truth” from people like him.
In April 2023, the Fox News channel sensationally removed Carlson, who is the highest-rated journalist in the United States, from the air. After this, Carlson made a video statement regarding his dismissal. According to him, the reason was that important topics such as civil liberties, the development of science, demographic changes, etc. are prohibited in the American media. Class A shares of Fox Corp. fell by 5.4% on April 23 immediately after the journalist was fired.
