After a short period of delay, OpenAI's GPT Store is close to its official opening. GPT Store will be a platform where users can not only sell, but also share customized AI assistants based on OpenAI language models. The company recently announced that the official launch will take place next week, communicating the news through an email sent to those enrolled in the GPT Builders program. The email also urges users to verify that their GPT creations comply with brand guidelines and to make their GPTs public. The idea of allowing other people to build AI assistants, known as GPTs, leveraging OpenAI's GPT-4 language model, was first announced at its developer conference in November.
The feature will be accessible exclusively to ChatGPT Plus subscribers and businesses, allowing them to create, purchase or distribute customized versions of ChatGPT-style chatbots for free. These chatbots will range from being experts at interpreting Gen Z memes to guiding people through complex negotiations. While custom versions of GPTs created by OpenAI are already available via ChatGPT Plus's “Explore” tab, the GPT Store will give users the ability to share and monetize their GPT creations. OpenAI has stated its intention to develop a compensation system for GPT creators based on the use of their AI agents on the platform, although it has not yet disclosed further details about this.
