The understaffed airports are currently struggling with large crowds. The situation in London has now escalated. Is baggage chaos also looming in Germany?
London – At Heathrow Airport, the current congestion in global air traffic has taken on drastic proportions. Images that a Sky News reporter first published on Twitter on Friday (June 17) show suitcases and bags that stretch across the airport grounds like a carpet. As the associated news portal later reported, many passengers had to leave without their luggage. Since the airports in Germany are also currently reporting overloads, the question arises as to whether such conditions can also be expected here.

the coronaThe pandemic has meanwhile paralyzed air traffic to a large extent. As a result, numerous employees in the airport industry were laid off during the crisis. Due to rising temperatures and fewer measures, the desire to travel is currently increasing again, with the understaffed take-off and landing sites being overwhelmed to varying degrees. If you want to fly on your summer vacation, you have to expect delays, queues and more at the airport. However, the situation at Heathrow is now setting new standards for the travel chaos this year.
Passengers must travel without luggage: Chaos at Heathrow Airport
The numerous pieces of luggage that were temporarily stored at London Airport could not be flown together with their owners, Sky News reported. The on-site staff informed the passengers that they would have to wait up to two days for their suitcases. To bring order to the chaos, employees are said to have sorted the masses of luggage by placing them on posts with letters stuck on them.
In Germany, too, there has already been congestion in air traffic. While numerous vacationers were recently stranded at Düsseldorf Airport due to canceled Eurowings flights, the Frankfurt Airport disruptions and long waiting times on Corpus Christi on. Nevertheless, conditions like those in London do not necessarily have to be expected for the time being. A technical error in the luggage system is said to have been the last straw at Heathrow Airport, a spokesman told Sky News. However, the still low occupancy also increases the risk in this country that luggage will eventually pile up on the airport floor. (vbu)
