The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi announced that more than 60,000 fans would attend the Saudi Super Cup football matches, which were held in Abu Dhabi from April 8 to 11, with the participation of 4 teams: Al-Ittihad, Al-Nasr, Al-Hilal, and Al-Wahda.
Al Hilal was crowned champion of the cup after defeating Al Ittihad in the final match 4-1, at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium.
The semi-final matches for the cup brought together Al-Ittihad and Al-Wahda at Al Nahyan Stadium, which Al-Ittihad won, and the second was between Al-Hilal and Al-Nasr at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, which Al-Hilal won to qualify for the final match with Al-Ittihad.
“Hayakum in Abu Dhabi”, the tourism identity of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, won the bid to host the Saudi Super Cup, to be held for the first time in an Arab country outside Saudi Arabia.
Mohammed Abdullah Hazzam Al Dhaheri, Secretary-General of the Football Association, confirmed that the success achieved by this season’s Saudi Super Cup enhances the successes achieved by the capital, Abu Dhabi, in organizing sporting events.
He added, “We congratulate the Al Hilal Club team for the title, and we thank everyone who left their mark on the details of this important sporting event.”
The tournament witnessed the participation of major football stars, most notably Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, along with regional talents such as Salem Al-Dosari and Abdul Razzaq Hamdallah.
