The Department of Social Services in Sharjah has given 6 tips to families of students who suffer from their children’s refusal to go to school, as part of the social awareness sessions it provides to families on how to deal with children.
The advice given by the department to the students’ families included the following:
1- Being patient and calm in dealing with the child and being careful to avoid verbal or physical violence.
2- Dialogue with the child to find out the causes of the problem and emotionally communicate with him.
3- Talking to the school’s administrative and teaching staff to look for the problem, perhaps being bullied or mistreated.
4- Searching for the cause of the problem at home as well, such as parental quarrels and child fear.
5- Training the child on relaxation techniques, controlling different emotions, and teaching him self-defense methods.
6- Resorting to an educational specialist when a child’s separation anxiety problem arises before entering school.
