The winter transfer market has been full of rumors from the first day until the closing moments, but not all of those rumors have been confirmed. Throughout the last month we expected some movements to be made that in the end have come to nothing.
These are some of the signings that sounded the most but that in the end did not come to fruition.
Maurco Icardi was the 9 chosen by Juventus of Turin to face the second half of the season. PSG was not opposed to the player’s departure but they did not agree on the forms: the French wanted a transfer and the Italians a loan without a mandatory purchase option.
Finally Icardi did not move from Paris and the Bianconero team signed Dusan Vlahovic for whom half of Europe yearned and for which Arsenal came to offer 50 million euros, an insufficient amount compared to the more than 80 that Juve has paid.
Álvaro Morata was the 9 chosen by Xavi Hernández to strengthen Barcelona’s forward line and despite the efforts of both parties to get the operation carried out, Morata has not moved from Turin.
First it was Juventus that hindered the operation because Allegri did not want to let the player leave if a substitute did not arrive first. The signing of Vlahovic seemed to open the exit doors for Morata but then Atlético de Madrid refused to reinforce a direct rival like Barcelona.
Tanguy Ndombélé was going to leave Tottenham to return to France and he has. PSG seemed to be in the best position but it was Olympique de Lyon who got the midfielder on loan after Bruno Guimaraes signed for Newcastle.
FC Barcelona and Cádiz had very advanced negotiations to close Luuk de Jong’s transfer, however the player did not want to go to the Cadiz team since de sair preferred the Turkish league where he had some proposal. It seemed clear that Barcelona was going to get rid of the player, but his three goals in three games made them change their minds and they have stayed with him until his loan ends at the end of the season.
The Dembélé thing was more a wish on the part of Barcelona than a real option. The Barça team has tried by all means to release Dembélé after refusing to renew his contract. Bayern Munich, Arsenal or PSG seemed to be willing to take the Frenchman but they ended up lowering the bid. Even so, Barça tried to find him a new team until the last day.
