Two studies, one in humans and one in mice, said that the effect of conventional and e-cigarettes on the heart and blood vessels is strikingly similar, and it is possible that the damage to the arteries is caused by irritation of the airway due to inhalation of a foreign substance.
The results of the research linking the two studies were published on the American Heart Association website, and indicated that cigarette smoking of both types causes a dysfunction in the lining of blood vessels, and their inability to open enough to supply the heart and other tissues with sufficient blood.
