Back and forth with Toyota
The anticipation is growing for the approaching 24 Hours of Le Mans 2024 – one of the most anticipated and fascinating editions ever given the very high level of the participating manufacturers – and inevitably the first skirmishes between the top teams. From this point of view, after the Test Day which saw the Porsches stand out, it was the Toyota the first to directly attack its rivalssuggesting the existence of an unbridgeable margin of advantage between the Stuttgart company and its direct pursuers, including the Japanese and also Ferrari.
Bargains from which the German giant immediately tried to free himself, arriving at Le Mans with two victories out of three races at the start of the season. If Toyota director David Floury said that Porsche needed to make a “to lose”bad job“, the manager of the factory team Urs Kuratle he returned these reasonings to the sender, underlining the unpredictability of all endurance racing and in particular the 24 hours.
Porsche breaks away from the predictions
“There are so many reasons why you can do a good job and not win any race, especially Le Mans – Kuratle told the site Sportscar365 – I’m sure we are in contention and that we will have the chance to win. If we don’t win, we will have to analyze why. And if it’s because we did a bad job, we’ll have to make sure we don’t do it again“.
At Porsche, despite the encouraging results obtained on Test Daywe want to avoid taking supremacy over direct competitors for granted: “We are happy – Kuratle further explained – but we know that this will not be the reality, the first two stints of the race will be different. We don’t know the pace of others, only they know it. We have carried out our program and this is the result, but we are under no illusion that we are very far ahead. We will see the truth in the first or second stint of the race, not in qualifying”.
