The life cycle of pick-ups is usually somewhat longer than that of normal passenger car models, but in 2022 we can finally expect a successor to the VW Amarok introduced in 2010. That pick-up has been good to Volkswagen, because more than 800,000 units have been built so far, and this workhorse is still popular in the southern hemisphere (with us it was removed from the catalog in 2020).
Volkswagen design
In anticipation of the unveiling of the new model, Volkswagen is teasing with some drawings, which already show that the 2022 VW Amarok can boast a confident and contemporary design – we see, among other things, the light strip at the top of the radiator grille that connects the two headlights. connects, as with other recent Volkswagen models.
For the rest, VW does not reveal much yet, but the Germans do promise that the new Amarok will unpack with “numerous innovations that will be seen for the first time in this segment”. In any case, it will obviously make a big leap in driver assistance systems and connectivity, and of course it will once again be able to hold its own in the field.
Ford Ranger
The VW Amarok 2022 is completely new. And the Germans repeatedly emphasize its Volkswagen DNA, both inside and out. However, we know that the new generation of the model will be based on the also completely new, already proposed Ford Ranger 2022. A kind of exchange deal, because the new Ford Tourneo Connect is secretly a Volkswagen Caddy.
The new Volkswagen Amarok will also be built by Ford at its South African factory in Silverton, while the previous generation came off the production line at Pacheco, Argentina, and Hanover. The newcomer will be on the market in the course of 2022, but prices and technical data are yet to be announced.
