Volunteers have retrieved about 11 tons of dead fish from a small lake in central France whose waters are almost drying up amid a severe drought this summer.
A report, published by the French newspaper “Le Parisien”, today, Tuesday, said that about 80 people came to help retrieve the dead fish after a local association of fishermen asked for help in the town of “Mabli”.
Experts said it was possible that the low water level in the nearby Loire River meant that no more fresh water could flow into the small lake, causing temperatures to rise and an algae outbreak.
Eventually, the pond became almost devoid of oxygen and the fish suffocated.
The volunteers were only able to save a small number of live fish that were taken to the Loire River.
