The José Zorrilla stadium and La Rosaleda will officially open this Friday the Second LaLiga Week Against Racism, which will last until Tuesday 21, the world day for the elimination of racial discrimination. The fields of Valladolid and Málaga, before and during the matches against Athletic and Levante, respectively, will kick off the campaign launched by LaLiga, together with EA Sports, with the aim of “raising awareness” among fans of the importance of eradicating racism in all areas of society.
Most of the professional soccer players will pose before the matches of the 26th day of LaLiga Santander and the 32nd of the Smartbank League with multicolored shirts from the ‘Unity’ initiative, so that the audience can join the cause, while in the In different First and Second stadiums, information can be seen at different points, among others, on the captains’ special armbands and on the video scoreboards. This year the initiative revolves around the word ‘Unity’, embodied by the artistic group Boa Mistura and which highlights “the fact that United we are much stronger against racism”, LaLiga emphasizes.
Numerous First Division footballers, such as Pedri (Barcelona), José María Giménez and Thomas Lemar (Atlético), Johan Mojica (Villarreal), Ruiz de Galarreta (Mallorca), Vinicius de Souza (Espanyol), Martin Hongla (Valladolid), Pathé Ciss and Óscar Trejo (Rayo Vallecano), Renato Tapia (Celta), William Carvalho (Betis) or Yunus Musah (Valencia) have participated in the video released by LaLiga to promote the campaign against racism, with the classic Barça-Madrid on Sunday at the Camp Nou as a great claim.

After LaLiga has already filed up to seven complaints for racist insults against Vinicius, including precisely in Zorrilla, during the last match between Valladolid and Real Madrid, the Brazilian striker of the defending champion will play against the eternal rival and leader of the championship and will be in the spotlight again for having been the victim of attacks in different stadiums. Among others, at the Camp Nou itself on October 24, 2021, although the case was filed by the Prosecutor’s Office as those responsible for the “monkey” and “macaco” shouts made against Vinicius were not found.
Also in FIFA 23
Athletic footballers, such as Iñaki Williams, also a victim of racist insults, Iker Muniain or Yuri Berchiche, have also participated through social networks in appeals against this scourge. As of this Thursday, players of the FIFA 23 video game could also select the ‘Unity’ kit for their teams, the same one that the footballers will wear before their matches this weekend.
The II Week of LaLiga against Racism is another step in the fight that the employers’ association of professional clubs is carrying out against discrimination and intolerance in football. In addition, recently, the organization chaired by Javier Tebas has enabled an email and a Telegram channel for fans to contact and facilitate the identification and reporting of those who act with racist behavior.
Ending racism is one of our goals in LaLiga. We have already denounced the racist comments that are heard in the fields and we have just created channels for fans to help us detect and denounce the aggressors. This II Week against Racism helps us to create more awareness in society and to continue taking steps against racism”, explained Javier Tebas.
Social networks will also be the scene of this initiative. It is expected that fans and clubs will launch their messages of support for the project and against racism during these days “and that together they will contribute to making the project much bigger”, as LaLiga points out.
