After being a trending topic, The Most Feared Skin surpassed the barrier of 10,000 viewers in its first week. However, its director, Joel Calero, questioned whether the film has lost functions. “We had rooms full or rooms at 95%. The schedules they have given us are mostly bad. I hope that, despite that, they exercise their right to see the film,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter) about the film that addresses the internal armed conflict.
The filmmaker’s claim was supported by the audiovisual sector and also by the public and journalists. Pedro Salinas wrote: “Despite the resounding success of The Most Feared Skin in theaters, they removed it from the main theaters today. Point for Lima fascism.”
The film has some theaters assigned to it at 8:20 pm, but above all it has screenings at difficult times (2:30, 4:55 and 9:45 pm). “And the laws of the market? Oh, right, in these types of cases they don’t apply. What rules is the tendency to become a retrograde, cave-dwelling and authoritarian society, condescending and indolent in the face of this type of arbitrariness,” adds Salinas in X.
The film premiered at the 2023 Lima Film Festival continues the political trilogy that Joel Calero began with The Last Afternoon. The issue sparked a debate on television, as the filmmaker defended the importance of the film and maintained that he does not seek to “romanticize” violence.
Journalist Hugo Coya pointed out that he considers the cutting of rooms “incomprehensible.” “This treatment even goes against the logic of the market. “Something doesn’t add up.” In that sense, on the same social network, Rosa María Palacios said: “What a bad sign from the rooms. I know a lot of people who are waiting for the weekend to go. I don’t think it’s a veto or censorship, right? “I don’t think so, but you better run to see it before it happens.”
Several users in movie theaters used the platforms to show the photocaps that show the good reception from the public.
