President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will speak at the next NATO summit to be held in Madrid on June 29 and 30but he will do it by videoconference, as confirmed by Ihor Zhovkva, deputy head of the presidential office.
“The President of Ukraine has been invited to participate in the summit via video link. The president has been invited to speak at the first session of this summit, that is, the opening session, which will be attended by all 30 leaders, NATO allies,” Zhovkva was quoted as saying by the local ‘Ukrinform’ agency.
He noted that the event will result in the adoption of a new strategic defense concept for NATO to face the next decade. A final declaration will be approved at this meeting and, according to Zhovkva, the situation in Ukraine, as well as the Russian aggression that began on February 24, will play a prominent role in these documents.
The Madrid summit, with some 40 world leaders, including those from member countries and guests, and 5,000 attendees, is expected to set the course for the military alliance for the next decade as NATO faces Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Zhovkva also said that President Zelensky would attend the Group of Seven (G7) summit next week.
Resistance to attacks in Azot, Severodonetsk
Meanwhile, Russian troops have attacked in the last few hours the buildings and the entry checkpoint at the Azot chemical plant in Severodonetsk, in the eastern province of Lugansk, where several hundred civilians and soldiers resist.

The Russians also fired on the premises of a brick factory in the city and “Fierce fighting continues in the industrial district“of this city, Serhii Haidai, head of the Military administration of the Lugansk region, assured on his Telegram account on Tuesday.
According to regional authorities, currently, 568 civilians take refuge in the Azot chemical plant, including 38 children. For the most part, these are the plant’s staff and their families, who refused to be evacuated. An undisclosed number of Ukrainian military personnel also remain at the facility.
Haidai indicated that several medical teams are still working in one of the hospitals in Severodonetsk, which means that not the entire city is controlled by the Russians, as Moscow claimsa situation that cannot be contrasted with an independent source.
Russian forces also carried out assault operations around Severodonetsk, in the settlements of Komyshuvakha, Zolote and Hirske, approaching from various directions, and increased shelling on nearby Lisichansk, one of the cities the Russians are trying to take. .
