Fanarts from concept artist Andres Rios reinterpret some of the game’s most popular creature designs.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a video game that marked an entire generation and is considered one of the best games of all time. Link’s adventure on Nintendo 64 arrived a little over a month ago at the Video Game Hall of Fame, and it counts in the industry, his fans count by millions.
One of them is Andres Rios, concept artist and character designer who, as he points out in his profile, has worked with companies such as Bungie, The Coalition, Netflix, Bandai Namco or DC. Rios has shared from his account Twitter some impressive illustrations that have been echoed nintendo life and what do you show a realistic and scary version of some of the enemies in the Nintendo game.
Rios has recreated the Skulltulas, ReDead, Bongo Bongo and Dead Hand with a sinister style that turns Link’s fearsome enemies into the perfect food for our nightmares. The artist has used ZBrush and KeyShot for rendering, and PhotoShop for post-processing. The result is fantastic and some details, like Bongo Bongo’s severed hands, turn into something really unpleasant.
They were the ones I hated the most when I was a kidAndres Rios, conceptual artist“I chose [estos cuatro] because they were the ones i hated the most when i was a kid“, Rios confessed to Nintendo Life. “I really love Ocarina of Time and in my free time I’m working on more fanart, eventually I would love to do more of other games of Zelda like Majora’s Mask or Wind Waker”. Rios has thanked the reception of the fanarts and has taken the opportunity to share two more, of Stalfos and Big Poe. He has also claimed that he is working on some new ones like Volvagia, Gohma, Darknut and Stalchild. If you’re a fan of the ’64 classic, we recommend that you take a look at the spectacular fan remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time made in Unreal Engine 4, which you can also download right now.
