The XIX Bolivarian Games, to be held in Valleduparcapital of the Colombian department of Cesar, will be inaugurated on Friday and with them the Olympic cycle of Paris 2024 will begin for 11 American countries and 3,264 athletes who hope to successfully complete this journey.
The Bolivarian Games of Valledupar will mark the beginning of the Olympic cycle of the Colombian Anthony Zambrano, a road to Paris 2024 that the runner-up of the 400 meters of Tokyo 2020 seeks to start with the right foot at home, before the public of the region from which he is a native
At 24 years old, the athlete born in Maicao, a town in the Caribbean department of La Guajira, will try to continue improving in these two years to reach the Olympic Games at his best level and win a medal again, like the one he already won. He became the first Colombian to win a medal in a track event. The Bolivarians, according to his coach, the Cuban Nelson Gutiérrez, will be the opportunity for Zambrano to recover his best level, since he is still “not at his peak.”
Doubt his performance
However, Zambrano’s performance at the Games is not guaranteed. The athlete himself slipped this Thursday the possibility of not participating.
Zambrano was present in Cali as an ambassador for the 2022 Under-20 World Athletics Championships.
There he gave vehement statements. He said that although the idea is to be on the podium, it is not yet known what can happen. “It is not an obligation to compete, because they have screwed me in other competitions, right here, so why do I have to go to that? I am not decided, I look to see what I do”Zambrano told the Cali media.
The athlete stated that he has differences with leaders. “It makes certain people sad here… It’s the economic thing. There is never support, there is never anything… Nobody manipulates me, I rule because I am the one who runs, one is the one who is on the track, to earn a misery,” added the athlete.
Zambrano said that he has a pubalgia injury. but he assured that he has run with worse things.
