His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to His Highness the President of the State and Supreme President of the United Arab Emirates University, stressed that the university’s goals correspond to the priorities of the United Arab Emirates for the next fifty years, pointing to the possibility of achieving these goals through teamwork as a university community and external partnerships.
His Excellency – in his speech today during the annual meeting of the university family at the beginning of the new academic year – said that the university includes a group of distinguished minds and talents, and that our meeting symbolizes the nature of work as a single work team to start another academic year of success and achievement and to continue the development of the university .
In his speech, the Supreme President of the University specified the purpose of the meeting, and said that it allows us to evaluate our experience and review the major changes in the university environment that affect us, and provides the opportunity to remind ourselves of the university’s goals and directions, and confirms that we in the UAE University are one family, united in our commitment to student education, innovation and research. Academic, which will have a positive impact on the university and the state.
His Excellency stressed the ten principles of the UAE in the next fifty years, which are consistent with the objectives of the university, calling for their use as a roadmap for developing human capabilities, producing knowledge, scientific research, entrepreneurship and innovation in higher education, serving the community, developing more international partnerships through teaching and scientific research, and preparing graduates. Competitors in the labor market, which contribute to the development of the country’s competitiveness and ensure a sustainable future.
He pointed to the changes made by the government to the law on the governance of federal higher education institutions so that they become more flexible and effective in a way that contributes to the development of education in the country, noting that the United Arab Emirates University now enjoys a legal status as an independent institution and has more flexibility in its financial, administrative and academic affairs. This means that the university can develop as a financially sustainable, administratively efficient and academically advanced institution, meeting national priorities.
His Excellency touched on the responsibility of the Board of Trustees, and said: The Law of Governance of Higher Education Institutions enables the university to innovate, keep pace with the era of rapid and continuous change, and build a strategy based on clear and well-studied goals and performance measures, and this independence and what it represents – responsibility and accountability – means that we are in a better position to achieve Institutional excellence and academic development, referring to the university’s strategic plan, which is consistent with the ten principles, within the areas of student employment, innovation and impact, community service, strengthening partnerships, effectiveness and institutional flexibility.
After that, the meeting followed a presentation on a series of projects that support the development of the university to accelerate its production of patents, study programs, and its expertise in human capital development, and then concluded by honoring the retired faculty members of the university.
