An electric classic Mini? No problem, there are quite a few of them. For example, you can get one from Swind E for just under 100,000 euros or one from LEC for about a quarter of that price. Prefer something more official? Then we have good news: Mini is now going to convert the classic city car itself. They call it the Mini Recharged.
The conversion, Mini says, consists of a series of “reversible” changes. So nothing is cut or welded and the petrol engine remains safe with Mini in case you pine for peut again. The engine is replaced by an electric motor that delivers a reasonable 121 hp, good enough for 0-100 km/h in about 9 seconds.
The size of the battery has not been disclosed, but the range of the electric classic mini is around 160 kilometers. In our experience, this is about the same as the Mini Cooper SE (or just Mini Electric) that you can order ready-made from the dealer. It is not yet known what the Mini Recharged should cost.
Few changes in the interior
Inside, Mini exchanges the instrument panel with relevant counters where you can see the range, for example. “What the project team is developing maintains the character of the classic Mini and allows its fans to enjoy all-electric performance,” said Bernd Körber, Head of Mini. ‘With Mini Recharged we connect the past with the future of the brand.’
Artistic electric classic Minis in the future
“Individuality also plays an important role at Mini Recharged,” adds Sebastian Beuchel, Head of Mini Global Brand Management. “There have always been unique classic Mini models created, including real works of art on wheels. Therefore, future collaborations are also planned as part of the Mini Recharged program, which will allow renowned artists to express their creativity with specially designed classic Mini models.”
