XDefiant by Ubisoft implemented the total crossplay (PC and console together). However, for those who only wish to play crossplay with other console players, this feature will be available at some point after release, as the developers have confirmed that XDefiant crossplay for consoles only is actually in the works for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
In the meantime it is possible to play either against all platforms, or completely disable cross-play and play only with people who have the same platform as us. On Xbox, however, there is an additional problem.
As explained by Ubisoft’s Mark Rubin, Microsoft prohibits developers from including a feature in video games to disable cross-play. If you want to play only with other Xbox users you need to activate the option directly from the console, via the settings.
The problem of no cross-play on Xbox
As pointed out by some users on Twitter, who commented on Mark Rubin’s words, removing cross-play has a problemespecially on Xbox.
If you decide to turn off full cross-play and only play with Xbox users, you risk struggling to find challengers. By removing cross-play you can only play with other people who have also deactivated cross-play in the console settings: however, there are few who know they can do it and who are interested, so the result is a number of potential players very limited. In the case of XDefiant, however, according to Rubin the problem is limited because matchmaking prioritizes players with the same platform.
If the option was in the game, probably more people would notice it and take advantage of it, since in an FPS playing against people who are on PC can sometimes be disadvantageous.
Finally, we remind you that XDefiant will not have pay-to-win mechanics.
