It is no secret that Xbox has faced a number of challenges selling its consoles in recent years. While the hardware has not been the desired success globally, the situation is very complicated in Japan, where approximately 600 thousand Series X | S have been sold so far since its launch. Now, It has been revealed that this console will increase in price in this region.
In accordance with Famitsu, The Xbox Series X|S will increase in price starting next August 15. There is talk of a 12% increase for the 1TB Series X and Series S, while the 512GB Series S will increase by 17%. Here are the prices in Japan:
- Xbox Series X – from ¥59,978 yen to ¥66,978 yen.
- Xbox Series S 1 TB (Black) – from ¥44,578 yen to ¥49,978 yen.
- Xbox Series S 512 GB – from ¥37,978 yen to ¥44,578 yen.
This increase will affect Japan. Microsoft has noted that this is the result of a market analysis. This means that the price increase is a consequence of the poor state of the yen compared to the dollar at the moment. Let’s remember that this is the second time that this has happened, since in January 2023 the increase of the Xbox Series X|S was also reported.
It is currently unknown whether Microsoft plans to make a similar move in other regions or not.. However, this could be seen as a negative, especially in a region where the PlayStation 5 outsells the Xbox Series X|S 10 to 1. In related news, Xbox announces new transparent controllers. Similarly, here are the company’s plans for Gamescom 2024.
Author’s Note:
The Xbox Series X|S is barely selling in Japan, and this increase will only be a reason for the public in this region not to buy Microsoft’s console. It’s a tough economic situation in Japan, and this simply doesn’t help gamers.
