The Family Development Foundation organized a workshop under the title “Warmth and friendliness is the basis of sound education” within the service of developing parenting skills, including a series of workshops and training courses, aimed at developing effective parenting skills to meet the cognitive, emotional and social needs of children at all stages of life, and presenting problem-solving mechanisms according to Positive discipline approach to foster communication of positive relationships with the child.
The workshop was presented by Dr. Heba Sharkas, a family expert and mental health consultant, who addressed a number of themes, including, what does my child need to grow with love?, acquiring skills to satisfy psychological needs, and deducing the positive effects of satisfying the psychological needs of children, in addition to the results of emotional gratification and support for mental health .
Sharkas stressed the importance of satisfying children’s psychological needs, which are security, unconditional love, acceptance, respect and appreciation, encouragement and praise, and the need for discipline, in addition to the need for play and fun.
She pointed out that satisfying these psychological needs is one of the most important parental roles in education, as the child whose psychological and emotional needs are met and satisfied grows confident in himself in a way that makes him able to face life’s challenges, trusts his family and is proud of his belonging to his family, and feels entitlement to love and attention. Unlike a child whose psychological needs are not satisfied, which makes him suffer from low self-esteem and the pursuit of pleasing others, feeling unable to complete tasks, and addiction to negative behaviors, such as violence or withdrawal.
