Stefany Barranco Oquendo, a 32-year-old girl from Malambo, Atlántico, was the victim of a brutal feminicide in a mall of Bogota On May 29, the crime has left two children without their mother. This is not the first case of femicide in the Santa Fe shopping center, in 2017, a man had murdered his romantic partner in this place.
According to witnesses, the alleged attacker, identified as Iván, broke into the establishment where he worked Stephanie and a heated argument began that escalated to physical attacks. Using a sharp object, he ended the woman’s life, despite her attempts to defend herself against him. Media in Colombia have indicated that the alleged feminicide was ex partner of the young woman.
It is known that Stefany worked at IMUSA, one of the businesses of the mall which is located on the first floor. The alleged feminicide arrived at her establishment at around 5:10 p.m. to attack her with a knife that she had with him.
Those present prevented the aggressor from taking his life after the attack, thus ensuring his capture. After injuring Stefany, De la Rosa injured himself and was transferred with the victim to the Simón Bolívar Hospital, where his health remains critical.
Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the charge of feminicidehighlighting that the victim had not reported previous threats from her ex-partner.
Local media have reported that Stefany was the mother of two girls to which he dedicated all his time outside of work. According to the authorities, this would be the feminicide number 20 in Bogotá during 2024.
Stefany’s case has been widely shared on social networks, where people have condemned the crime. A video shows the moment in which they manage to knock down the alleged attacker, as well as images of the victim’s rescue attempts.
Stefany’s family demands that the authorities do justice and punish the alleged feminicide with the full weight of the law. The mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, urged quick judicial action to prevent tragedies like this from being repeated.
The Santa Fe Shopping Center and the company where Stefany worked, Imusa Colombia, issued statements deeply regretting what happened and offering their support to the victim’s family. In addition, they promised to collaborate closely with the authorities to solve the crime.
