First podium of the year
After the bittersweet third place in Montreal – in which the Mercedes collected their first podium of 2024 with George Russell but also has wasted the chance to finally break a fast of success which lasts from the end of 2022 – the silver arrows move to Spain for what is perhaps, from their point of view, the most important race of the year.
Towards Barcelona
The common opinion in the paddock is in fact that the Barcelona circuit is perhaps the most complete on the calendar and that whoever does well here can be competitive anywhere. The hope of the Mercedes management is therefore that of see the progress shown by the W15 confirmed on the Catalan asphalt in North America.
The litmus test
“Barcelona will be a good testing ground to check our progress – declared the team principal Toto Wolff – the track features a mix of fast, medium and slow corners, a long straight and numerous changes in gradient. Tracks containing this wide range of different sections have been a weak point of ours so far this year. This weekend will therefore provide another opportunity to evaluate our progress through the recent updates, and we hope to build on the positive momentum from Montreal“.
