Netanyahu ensures his political survival while killing hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza

The ultra -nationalist government of Benjamín Netanyahu has returned this week to its genocidal routine in the Gaza Strip. Each night, Israeli fighter -bombers attack the Palestinians while sleeping in their homes – or what remains of them – in the tents and anywhere else in the devastated enclave, where more than 60% of the buildings have been destroyed by Israel.

On Tuesday morning, we got up with the news that hundreds of Gazatis had been killed during the night and with the images of the deceased, of the corpses of entire families in the morgue of one of the few hospitals that continue to function at half a gas in the strip, of the small cuited bodies (among the victims, there were 183 minors, according to local authorities).

That day, the sentences followed: From the UN And all governments – to the exception of the American – lamented the deaths of civilians, who were the vast majority of those killed in the bombings; But the next day, the figures and images of the massacre in Gaza were again the norm, as were during the 15 months between October 7, 2023 and January 19, 2025, when a fragile and repeatedly raped high fire entered into force. In those 15 months they had already perished more than 48,000 Gazatis; This week the number has increased to almost 50,000 – in addition to thousands of missing people and, with probability, dead under the rubble.

Israel ended the high fire agreement with Hamas unilaterally, surprise and brutal, with the approval of the administration of Donald Trump, which has given legitimacy to the plans of the Netanyahu government to expel the Palestinian population of Gaza and even annexation parts of the strip, As the Minister of Defense has threatened this FridayIsrael Katz. But analysts, especially some Israelis, point out that the rupture of the truce this week and the resumption of the offensive in Gaza – both by air like land – is no accident. Undoubtedly, the statements and signs from the United States have encouraged Israel, who knows that he can count on the fissure without its main ally, in addition to the supplier of weapons and defense lawyer in international organizations.

Netanyahu has once again resorted to war to guarantee its political survival, both at the head of the ruling coalition, and in the face of the multiple scandals that splatter it again. It seems that the prime minister needs to kill Palestinians to gain political life time, and the more, the better.

The Netanyahu Cabinet has approved the dismissal of the head of the Shin Bet (Israel’s internal intelligence service), Ronen Bar, being the first time in the brief history of the Jewish state that the Executive dismisses the head of that important branch of secret services (next to the exterior, called Mosad). The opposition has considered that there is a “deep conflict of interest” because the Shin Bet is investigating advisors to the office of the prime minister for alleged payments that they received from Qatar before the World Cup in that country in November 2022; Apart from a more recent investigation into Hamas attacks on October 7 against southern Israel, in which the intelligence service pointed to government failures.

This conflict of interest has not been unnoticed for a part of the Israeli citizens, who have demonstrated in the past days against the dismissal of the bar. The relatives of the hostages who remain in Gaza have also protested (59 in total, of which, about half it is believed that they are dead) by the resumption of the offensive against the strip that endangers their loved ones. Neither the group of the families of the hostages nor others in Israel have shown their concern about the hundreds or thousands of Palestinians who are going to die in this second assault on the Palestinian enclave, but they are aware that it does not benefit anyone, except Netanyahu, and that the prime minister is willing to sacrifice more lives – including those of the hostages and Israeli soldiers – to keep can.

At the moment, the government coalition headed by Netanyahu no longer endangers the return of the Itamar Ben Gvir executive and its radical party, which had abandoned the alliance when the Executive ordered the cessation of hostilities in Gaza last January and they have returned as soon as the bombs on the strip began to fall again, and to run the blood of Palestinian civilians. In addition, Netanyahu is demonstrating intended to pursue and liquidate anyone who puts himself on their way, is the head of the Shin Bet or the State Attorney General, against which the Government plans to begin a procedure to remove it from the position.

Ben Gvir and other extremist ministers have also lashed out against the country’s Supreme Court for temporarily suspending the dismissal of Ronen Bar. Bezalel Smotrich (Minister of Finance in favor of illegal settlements in occupied Palestinian territory and himself a settler) has affirmed that “The judges of the Superior Court will not direct the war or appoint their commanders”. This war that has openly became a struggle for survival and continuity of the most extremist government in Israel, and for the imposition of its great Israel project.

While the focus is put in Gaza, where the magnitude of horror does not allow us to look the other way so easily, Israel has continued military and safety operations in the busy West Bank, where the daily life of the daily lives of around 3 million Palestinians residing in this region, converted into another open -air jail very similar to Gaza. The UN stressed that the operation that the Israeli forces develop since January 21 is the longest and most violent in the West Bank since the second intifada in the first years 2000. In the last two months, about a hundred Palestinians have died.

In that same period, tens of thousands of people have had to leave Yenín’s refugee camps, Tulkarem, Nur Shams and Far’a, in northern Bank, without many perspectives of being able to return, since Israel has made it clear that it will not allow it in the short term. “Israeli military operations have caused the systematic destruction of civil infrastructure and housing, with the aim of permanently changing the characteristics of the Palestinian cities and refugee fields at a level that is not justified by any supposed military objective or imposition of the law,” Philippe Lazzarini denounced, General Commissioner of the UN Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).

While excavators and tanks cause that destruction, the Government issues orders to demolish Palestinian houses at an unprecedented rate in the occupied territories of the west and east Jerusalem, while authorizing the construction of housing in illegal settlements or legalizing those settlements that the settlers have raised with the collusion of the Israeli forces on the land and of the political leaders with also annexing the West Bank.

It is the policy of consummate facts that Netanyahu is applying on all fronts, both in Palestine and in the neighbors Lebanon and Syria, under the pretext of eliminating any “threat” to the security of Israel and its citizens. Israeli attacks have also killed several people on Lebanese and Syrian soil, given the impotence of these countries and international silence. These deaths with counts go unnoticed, do not appear in all social networks such as Gazatis, but are added to the corpses that Netanyahu accumulates.

In the past months, the Israeli army has occupied more territory in southern Syria and has remained in several parts of southern Lebanon, thus feeding the idea of the great Israel. Under the pretext of fighting alleged external threats, or to end Hamas in Gaza, Netanyahu achieves support and allies internally, and protects himself before any threat to his person and his political power: a strategy that has been successful, for the moment, but that has cost tens of thousands of dead in a year and a half.
