According to the British “Sky News” network, recent scientific experiments conducted on mice in the laboratory showed an impressive success for male contraceptive pills.
This scientific achievement was presented during the spring meeting of the American Chemical Society, a non-profit scientific body based in Washington, DC.
The source stated that the male contraceptive pill was effective up to 99 percent, without causing any side effects.
If available, these pills would spare many men from having to resort to vasectomy, a procedure that leads to permanent infertility that is rarely reversible.
If the man wants to restore the vas deferens he cut, he needs expensive surgery, with a low probability of being successful, and this necessitated thinking about easier ways to prevent a man from getting pregnant.
Scientists have tried for decades to develop oral contraceptive pills, but the latter is not on the market until now.
Researcher Abdullah Al-Numan, who presented the results of the study during the scientific meeting, said, “There are several components that are subject to clinical trials, but they contain the male hormone testosterone, and this would lead to weight gain, and possibly depression and other side effects.”
“We wanted to develop non-hormonal contraceptives for men,” added Al-Noman, a research student at the University of Minnesota.
The researchers hope to start clinical trials among men, during the second half of their current life.
