Culiacán, Sinaloa.- 42 boys, girls and young people who won the Ninth State Mathematics Olympiadfor primary and secondary school students, were recognized by the Secretary of Public Education and Culture, Graciela Dominguez Nava; 14 of them won a gold medal in the competition, and will be part of the Sinaloa Delegation to compete in the national stage, which will take place virtually on July 15 and 16.
With the representation of the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, the head of SEPYC, after congratulating and acknowledging each and every winning child, especially those who will represent Sinaloa in the 22nd edition of the National Mathematics Olympiadsaid that when most students hear the word math they think about a complex subject, however, their learning shows more benefits in daily life, since it develops our ability to reason and analyze, as well as express our ideas in a clearer, more coherent and precise way.
“The math they are applied to other sciences and are very present in our daily lives; they are essential in this time of constant change where new technologies transform the way we work and live. Whether we like it or not, mathematics becomes an increasingly important factor for our present and future, when most professions will use more technology developed by scientists”, he expressed.
In this Ninth edition, a total of 44 thousand 809 students were registered, who participated in 7 categories: 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade of primary school and 1st, 2nd and third grade of secondary school. He was awarded with a medal and a Tablet provided by the Secretary of Public Education and Culture, to 6 students per category, distributed as follows: 2 third places, 2 second places and 2 first places.
The first places of each Category14 in total, will receive virtual training on Tuesday and Thursday, in order to prepare for the national stage to be held on July 15 and 16.
The Director General of the General Coordination for the Promotion of Scientific Research and Innovation of the State of Sinaloa (CONFIE), Carlos Karam Quiñónes, emphasized that one of the main problems in Mexico is the learning and teaching of mathematics; Therefore, thousands of girls, boys and young people in the country have difficulties in this subject, which results in school dropout.
For this reason, he assured this government headed by Rubén Rocha Moya and from the Education secretarythe head Graciela Domínguez “are taking remedial measures to try to mitigate the problem of the deficiency in the teaching of mathematics.”
The Sinaloa Delegation was made up of: 3rd graders: Kiriath Giménez Preza and Eduardo Salvador Pulido; 4th grade: Jade Lazcano and Uziel Pérez; 5th. Grade: Nice Carolina Salas and Bernardo Heredia; 6th grade of elementary school: Alejandra García Martínez and Jessica Valeria Báez.
