Francisco Javier Chiquete Cristerna and José Fernando Castillo Mejia became the winners of the 20th edition of the National Prize for Poetry and Short Stories Dr. Enrique Peña Gutierrez.
During a press conference, directors of the Fundation Dr. Enrique Peña Gutierrez AC and members of the jury shared the news with the winners of the contest and extended their invitation to attend the awards ceremony that will take place next May 22 in Mocorito, Sinaloa.
Award-winning works
Prior to the announcement of the winnersOlga Penapresident of the Foundation, spoke about the enormous effort and dedication with which it has worked over the last twenty years since the creation of the National Award and stated that it has been an honor for her to observe how its reach continues to grow year after year.
Peña reported that this year the call for the award received more than 800 participants, with 478 works nominated for the short story category and 350 in competition for poetry.
The story category was won by the work “The teacher“, written by Francisco Chiquite Cisternawho is originally from Mazatlán, Sinaloa and has an outstanding career as a journalist.
Upon receiving the news, the author greatly thanked the members of the jury for believing in his literary debut and stated that this recognition is an incentive to continue working as a writer.
with your work“They told me that love”the writer originally from Mexico City, José Fernando Castillo Mejía took first place in the poetry category.
The author managed to conquer the jury with a moving reflection on the true meaning of love and how each person creates their own definition based on the experiences they have had with other people.
