Sanremo and western Liguria hit by gusts of wind at over 100 km/h and a very violent storm. The first toll of damage due to a “wave” which saw the anemometers go crazy and register more than 45 knots is heavy.
In Sanremo, in via Gaudio, right in the centre, the wind blew off a roof which fell into the street. The structure, fortunately cushioned by the awning of a restaurant, hit some pedestrians including the deputy mayor Costanza Pireri who, slightly injured, was transported by ambulance to the emergency room.
The wind caused the felling of two palm trees in Corso Imperatrice which was closed to traffic as a precaution. At least a dozen more roofs were uncovered, including one at the luxury shopping center The Mall. The ports were also hit by the storm, with a lot of work for the moorers dealing with continuous emergencies due to mooring ropes torn by the wave motion and the wind.
