Double top-10 finish
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix ends with a great result for the Williamswith both cars of the historic English team finally arrived in points zone. A placing that the Grove-based manufacturer had been missing since last year, when Albon and Logan Sargeant crossed the finish line in ninth and tenth position respectively in the latter’s home GP in Austin. In Baku, however, Albon outdid himself by reaching the 7th place (also aided by the contact between Sainz and Perez at the end), which is equivalent to the best seasonal placing for the Anglo-Thai driver and the team, given that Sargeant had never managed to score any points during this season before the end of his experience with Williams and in F1.
First points for Colapinto
But who really impressed was Frank Colapintowho in his second career GP achieved the eighth position after a qualifying session closed in Q3. A masterful performance by the young Argentine driver who not only guarantees the 21-year-old his first joys in F1 after his debut in Monza, but also Williams’ overtaking of Alpine in the Constructors’ standings, with the French team now ninth and three points behind: “Scoring my first points in Formula 1 it’s a fantastic feeling – commented Colapinto – I am very proud of this team for what we have achieved together. I am happy to have some points in the standings to show all the hard work and effort we have put in, as it is only my second race. We had a good pace, we were very close to the Aston Martins. Seventh and eighth place together with Alex means we are now eighth in the Constructors’ Championship, which is a good step forward and extra motivation for the team. We need to continue learning and improving together, because the season is long and there are still many races to go. I am looking forward to racing for the first time in Singapore next weekend.”
Overtaking on the Alpine
Pride also expressed by Alex Albonwith his fourth seasonal placing in the points zone: “We know how difficult it is to get into the points zone and to do it with two cars almost inside the top five is exceptional. – he added – we passed by ahead of Alpine in the championship, which was our target for the end of the year. This shows that we have made good progress with the latest updates. It’s another weekend where we were similar to the Astons in terms of pace and we scored points for the second race in a row. We were much quicker than we expected compared to the top teams and it was nice to be in the fight with them as well.”
