The 2022 season for all the teams will officially kick off on February 23, in Barcelona, with the highly anticipated day-1 of an intense three-day test on the Catalan circuit. It will be the first time that all the cars – after their respective shakedowns and filming days – will come face to face together, thus being able to compare performance and reliability. The top teams as well as those who have stationed at the bottom of the grid in recent years are therefore defining their own work schedule for the Spanish trip.
Among the teams to follow with a certain curiosity there is obviously also the Williams, orphan of George Russell and entrusted to the couple Alex Albon-Nicholas Latifi. In the past, the British team – which unexpectedly finished eighth in the constructors’ standings last year, ahead of Alfa Romeo – had ‘wasted’ a few rounds of pre-season testing to get third driver, Roy Nissany, to lap. This time, however, it is too important to take advantage of every single moment in the car, given the distortion of the technical regulations, and so on only the two starting drivers will work on the track.
The team schedule includes a perfect alternation, with both standard bearers from Grove who will be busy for half a day throughout the three days of testing. Nicholas Latifi will open the work on Wednesday morning, with Albon taking over in the afternoon. This will also be the work order of the two on Friday day-3. On Thursday there will be a reversal, with Albon on the track at the start of the day and Latifi at work after the lunch break.
