Barring surprises, during the Summer Game Fest on June 7th a new game based on one of the will be announced “2K’s biggest and best-loved series“, with the most popular candidates represented by Borderlands 4 and Mafia 4.
The news arrived a few minutes ago via a post on Game Fest, Friday 7 June”.
Between official confirmations and rumors
Let’s start with what we consider the most likely candidate, namely Borderlands 4, or whatever the name of the next game in the series will be. The title was confirmed in March in the press release that accompanied the official announcement of the acquisition of Gearbox Interactive, the authors of the series, by Take-Two, becoming part of the 2K Games team. Going further back, its existence was practically revealed by Randy Pitchford in February.
Among other things, the film will debut in cinemas on August 9th Borderlands movie and therefore the announcement of a new game could have positive effects on both productions.
Mafia 4 has also been officially confirmed, in this case in August 2022. Practically nothing concrete is known about the game, with the only information coming from some job advertisements published by Hangar 13, which speak of possible stealth and multiplayer elements in the game.
Just last month, insider Kurakasis reported that Take-Two could soon present the game to the general public, with a timing that could be around three-four weeks, which coincides with the Summer Game Fest.
Obviously these are the two most likely candidates, but it cannot be ruled out that 2K’s planned announcement could turn out to be something totally different. One user on We’ll see.
However, a new Bioshock is less likely (very happy to be wrong in this case), considering the less than reassuring information launched by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier last year, which spoke of a game with problematic development.
Remaining at Take-Two, just a few minutes ago the company revealed the official release period of GTA 6.
