The choice of its color is not something fortuitous and from the beginning it has been linked to safety of that currency.

Since 1850, one side of the dollar bills began to be printed in green, considering that it was difficult to counterfeit. This is because the printing equipment of the time they only did it in black and white. In addition, that color was difficult to achieve for counterfeiters who at the time only had solvents to try to achieve that hue.

At that time, the United States was facing a civil war and Congress authorized the issuance of the greenback (on one side) to finance the Army.

At the end of that decade, production was standardized and it was decided to continue printing in green due to the large number of supplies available and because it was considered that this color was indeed more difficult to copy.

Over time, the banknote has maintained its color but various elements have been added. to combat counterfeiting.

Although the shades are different in other countries there are also greenbacks. In India the 5 rupee is that color, in Canada the 20 Canadian dollar is that color and in Singapore the currency has that color.
