Municipal legislators also propose that real estate developers have to Submit rat plans when launching new projects and before receiving construction permits.
In addition, fines are contemplated for cases in which the garbage generated by the buildings is not stored properly. Although the problem goes back a long way, complaints to the authorities due to problems with rats have skyrocketed recently and some studies suggest that the number of these animals has multiplied during the pandemicwith services such as garbage collection reduced for months.
By resuming many construction projects that were stopped by the health crisis, the problem has become even more evident by pushing rats into the streets and other homes, according to those analyzes.

“The rat pack is fighting back!”wrote in a joking tone on his social networks the councilman the councilman of Manhattan, Shaun Abreu.
“New Yorkers don’t want to be afraid of rats when they walk down the street. Together with @SandyforCouncil, @OsseChi, and @ebottcher, we’re introducing 5 bills to end the infestation in our city.
“It doesn’t matter what the rats say!” the message concludes.
According to some studies, New York’s rat population would be around 2 million, roughly 25% of the human population living in the Big Apple.
