Every year, the Constitution Bridge presents the last opportunity for a large part of Spaniards to organize a getaway before Christmas. Also the first occasion to start buying gifts. This year, however, the bridge will not be the same for all citizens. December 6 – Constitution Day – and December 8 – Immaculate Conception Day – fall on Friday and Sunday, respectively. The Sunday holiday has been moved to Monday in some autonomous communities, and, therefore, a lucky few will be able to enjoy a “macro bridge” in 2024.
This was published by the Official State Gazette (BOE) in the resolution of October 23, 2023, of the General Directorate of Labor. According to their information, Friday the 6th will be a national holiday, and Monday the 9th will also be one in six autonomous communities: Aragón, Andalusia, Asturias, Castilla y León, Extremadura and Murcia.
Madrid, Catalonia, Cantabria, Navarra, Euskadi, Galicia, the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, La Rioja, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands will not be able to enjoy the holiday Monday, since in these communities the festival of the Immaculate Conception remains on Sunday and Monday will be a working and school day like any other on the calendar.
