Conducting group conversations through digital messaging applications was not easy until the Zoom video conferencing application introduced the ability to exchange a link to facilitate group conversations in the way of conferencing.
And now the social networking application WhatsApp wants to facilitate group conversations for its users without the need to collect a lot of phone numbers nor create a group chat room on the application.
“We have launched chat links on WhatsApp starting this week, so you can sign up for a link to start a group chat in one step,” said Mark Zuckerberg, head of the Meta Platforms group that owns WhatsApp.
Will Catcart, head of WhatsApp, said the new feature will be available for audio and video chats this week.
And unlike both Zoom and Google Hangouts, any WhatsApp link for a group chat needs to be installed on the devices of all participants in the conversation.
In the future, anyone who wants to start an audio or video group chat on WhatsApp will find the “Create a Contact Link” option at the top of the “Contacts” menu options.
Zuckerberg said that the developers are currently testing the ability to allow group video chatting with the participation of up to 32 users, while ensuring complete privacy and security.
