We can finally inspect the damage of the BMW XM that was driven into a tree by a drunk driver.
When an expensive car crashes it is sometimes very painful to see, but when someone drunkenly parks a BMW XM against a tree it is a different story. No one will be sad about that. It's actually only bad for the tree.
The accident in question dates from November last year, but we only had to make do with one photo, which a local police officer had shared. And in that photo you couldn't see the damage at all, except for a deployed airbag.
Two months later we can now inspect the damage, because the BMW XM in question is now at Boonstra Damage Vehicles. At least, we have a very strong suspicion that this is it. The design is exactly the same and the damage is mainly on the front right, where the car hit the tree. So it can't be missed.
Based on the deployed airbag, we already suspected that the collision with the tree was not a gentle kiss. The nose indeed appears to be quite wrinkled. The car also hit something on the left rear flank and the right rear wheel is at an unnatural angle. Now the XM four-wheel steering, but the other wheel is straight.
Despite the extensive damage, a considerable amount is still being asked for this car. To take this BMW XM with you, you must first transfer €82,950 to Boonstra Damaged Vehicles. Although that is a lot less than the new price (somewhere between €180 and €200k), it is still a lot of money. For that amount you also have a neat X5 M, which is completely intact…
In any case, it is a major financial setback for the owner, because he probably did not see any money from the insurance. And he probably still doesn't have his driver's license back, because he drove under the influence and then refused to blow his breath.
Thanks to @vbarchetta for the tip!
