The Catalan coach arrived in the summer of 2008 and with him some players willing to succeed in what was already one of the best teams in the world.
Not everyone did well in their adventure at Barça. Today we analyze what became of those five signings:
Since his retirement in 2017, he has stood out for participating in some charity actions in his native country along with other footballers. Now his name is coming up again because Barça is interested in a profile similar to his: Franck Kessié.
Martin Cáceres is still active in professional soccer. This same winter market has ended up in the ranks of the bottom team of the Spanish first division: Levante. The Uruguayan has completed a great career in Italian football.
Henrique was one of the great failures of that first winter market for Pep’s Barça. Between 2008 and 2012 he belonged to Barcelona but was loaned to different teams. He never made his debut with the elastic Blaugrana. Today he has returned to the team where he started: Coritiba from the Brazilian league.
The big mistake of his career was leaving Arsenal to go to Barcelona. Before that he was a great footballer with a lot of self-confidence. He lost it all when in Guardiola’s team he didn’t count on the importance he thought he could have.
The last signing of Guardiola’s first year at Barça was Gerard Piqué. In the long run it is without any doubt the one that came out the best. The Catalan footballer is still at Barça being one of the most important pillars of a defense that is getting better every day. Since Xavi’s arrival on the bench, Piqué has regained his self-confidence and is showing that he still has a lot of football to offer.
