With the strong possibility of a reboot of Malcolm in the middlemany are wondering if the original actors would be willing to reprise their iconic roles. Although Bryan Crranston, who played Hal, and Frankie Muniz, who played Malcolm, are interested, this reunion would be missing Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey, of which we finally know why he left the world of acting.
While Erik Per Sullivan was notable for his role as Dewey in Malcolm in the Middle, once the series came to an end, the actor disappeared, and for years many wondered what had happened to his life. Well, during an interview with Malcolm France, Jane Kaczmarek, the actress who played Lois, has confirmed that Sullivan has chosen to live a normal life, and is currently finishing college. This is what he said:
“He’s fine. He played Dewey on Malcolm in the Middle for 7 years. He started when he was 7, finished when he was 14, he wasn’t really interested in acting.
She is studying at a large US university which she has asked us not to reveal. She loves Charles Dickens and is graduating in Victorian literature.
I admire him so much because everyone thinks that working in the entertainment industry is the best, but it is not for everyone.”
This is nothing new, Since many actors also choose to leave Hollywood after a big roleespecially when we’re talking about people who started in this industry as children. Now, the question is: will Erik Per Sullivan appear in the reboot of Malcolm in the Middle?
Well, there is no clear answer at the moment. Considering that the actor wants to have a normal life, We probably won’t see him in the seriesbut considering the original cast is still in contact, it’s likely we’ll at least see him in cameo form. That is, if this project ever comes to fruition. On a related note, here’s the origin of the series’ iconic opening sequence.
Author’s Note:
This is natural. Hollywood is not for everyone, and some people just want to have a normal life. So, it’s okay if Erik Per Sullivan decides not to return for the reboot. All we can do is respect the young man’s wishes.
