As Biden blamed his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, for the rise in food prices in the United States, he warned that the plan to build new silos “will take time.”
“I am working closely with our European partners to bring 20 million tons of grain stuck in Ukraine to the market to help lower food prices,” the Democratic president said in a speech in Philadelphia.
He added that “what Putin’s war did is not only try to destroy the culture of Ukrainians, wipe out people and commit countless war crimes, but also prevent (export) grain, thousands of tons of stuck grain.”
The US president pointed out that the export of Ukrainian grain by land has not been complicated by the different standards of Ukrainian railways from those of neighboring countries.
“We will build silos, temporary silos on the borders of Ukraine, including in Poland, so that (grain) can be transported from these wagons to those silos and from them to wagons in Europe, and deliver them to the ocean and to the world,” he added.
