Weather | Storm Nelson ravages Western Europe: four people died in Spain after falling into the sea

On Thursday, Storm Nelson continued its course towards Britain, where it brought snow showers.

Four one person has died after the storm Nelson hit the northern parts of Spain, reports news agency AFP. Two people died on Thursday after falling into the sea in the province of Asturias, one in Muros del Nalón and the other in Cudillero.

In Tarragona, northern Catalonia, two people also drowned in the sea on Thursday. El País newspaper says that a minor Moroccan boy had to rely on water. The German man jumped in after trying to save the boy from the strong wave, but both drowned.

The Spanish Meteorological Institute has issued a weather warning for large parts of the Spanish coast and the Canary Islands due to dangerous waves and strong winds. The wave height can reach up to 6–7 meters, and people have been advised to avoid rocky cliffs, for example.

The waves rose high at the well-known tourist destination Brighton Pier in England on Thursday.

A tourist's umbrella was blown upside down by the wind in the Spanish Andalusian city of Ronda on Thursday.

Storm Nelson on Thursday brought strong winds and high waves also to the south and west of France, said Le Monde.

On Thursday, the storm continued to move towards Britain, where snow was reported in northern parts of England and Wales. In Britain, the storm is feared to lead to chaos in Easter traffic, says The Telegraph.
