Frost, rain and strong gusts of wind are expected in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
Week began on Monday in the metropolitan area with snowfall, strong winds and slippery weather.
In the morning it snowed for about four hours. There was six cents of heavy snow in Kumpula and four cents in Tapiola and Nuuksio in Espoo.
Poor visibility and effort hampered road traffic, and in the morning there were at least two exits on the eastbound lanes at Vantaankoski and between Juvanmalmi and Vanhakartano.
By half time, Lahdenväylä had already had three exits, one rear-end run and one electric pole run. There were no serious injuries in the accidents.
At noon the sleet and the effort ceased and the sun came up.
Towards evening, winds may increase slightly in the Helsinki metropolitan area. The wind melted into storm readings at night and in the morning in the southwestern part of the country.
“Until the evening, it also blows in the Helsinki metropolitan area. It is not quite every winter that storm readings go closer than 40 meters per second, ”the meteorologist on duty Jari Tuovinen said.
The strongest gusts in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area between nine and ten in the morning were 19.5 meters per second in Kaisaniemi, 18.4 meters per second in Kumpula and 16.7 meters per second in Helsinki – Vantaa.
According to Tuovinen, ten kilometers of Kauppatori directly facing the sea at the Helsinki lighthouse were measured 25.4 meters per second before ten in the morning.
“In 17 to 19 meters per second, there will probably be gusts at least until four in the afternoon. Towards evening it calms down somewhat, but the northwest wind stays up at night. At night, it blows six to seven meters per second, and in gusts 10 meters per second. ”
On Tuesday morning the wind calms down and turns to the west.
By Tuesday night, the weather will cool and the wind will rise. Tuesday – Wednesday is cloudy and on Wednesday during the day the sun can show up and we go to the plus side.
“This week is very roller coaster-like. First very windy and after the morning snowfall comes a colder and drier period. It may be 7-9 degrees below zero in the Helsinki metropolitan area on Tuesday morning. “
The night before Thursday it rains or sleet. Thursday winds from the north and there may be a similar amount of snow as on Monday. According to Tuovinen, Thursday is reminiscent of Monday due to wind and snowfall.
The good news for those who like cross-country skiing is that the mild period will be quite short and there will be new snow again on Thursday.
“Of course, the weather is a challenge to keep the outdoor tracks in good condition when the weather is sawing, when it’s snowing and melting again.”
