Update from December 1st, 8:49 p.m .: The heavy gusts of wind, which the German Weather Service warned against, especially in northern Germany, have reached Germany. There were already traffic delays in the north. In many places branches or trees fell on roads. The police and fire brigade are already in action.
Between Flensburg and Schleswig, a fallen tree blocked the tracks of the regional train from Flensburg to Hamburg on Wednesday afternoon, as the train announced on Twitter. One train was canceled on the section. In Hamburg, too, a tree on the U3 tracks blocked train traffic. The Hamburg fire brigade recorded 36 storm operations by early evening, which, according to the location service, ranged from fallen branches to tarpaulin flying around to overturned scaffolding. The situation was manageable, it said. Nobody was injured.
Storm: Storm low “Daniel” lashes over Germany
First report from December 1st: Munich / Offenbach – In the past few hours, low “Christian” has already ensured intense weather conditions. Now storm depression “Daniel” is rushing towards Germany. A severe storm threatens the north. Hurricane gusts of up to 120 km / h are possible on the North Sea coast. In the evening the wind whips the water towards the island and coasts – danger of storm surges!
The storm “Daniel” moves from the North Sea via southern Denmark to the Baltic Sea, reports the German weather service DWD. Red alert! The DWD has issued an official storm warning of gusts of wind with wind speeds of 125 km / h for regions on the North Sea coast in Lower Saxony and Bremen and later on the Baltic Sea coast (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania). The warning applies from Wednesday at 9 p.m. to Thursday at 3 a.m. The weather service warns of possible dangers: “ATTENTION! Reference to possible dangers: For example, trees can be uprooted and roofs damaged. Pay particular attention to falling branches, tiles or objects. Close all windows and doors! Secure items outdoors! In particular, keep a distance from buildings, trees, scaffolding and high-voltage lines. Try to avoid staying outside!”
German weather service warns: There is a threat of hurricane gusts and snow
The wind increases strongly on the North Sea coast on Wednesday afternoon. According to DWD experts, heavy gusts of wind (around 95 km / h) are initially to be expected in the North Sea. In the inland there are gusts of up to 85 km / h.
In the evening gale-force gusts (110 km / h) can be expected on the East Frisian Islands via Heligoland to Sylt. Occasional hurricane gusts rage at a speed of 125 (Bft 12) from northwest to north. In the inland too, temporary heavy gusts of wind from west to northwest are likely in the evening hours. The front system affects all of northern Germany. The wind can be felt almost everywhere. In Berlin and Brandenburg, Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia there are sometimes heavy gusts of wind (100 km / h) at night.

The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) assumes that the water level will be up to 1.5 meters higher at night on the East Frisian coast and in the Weser and Elbe regions and up to 75 centimeters on the North Frisian coast. One speaks of a storm surge on the North Sea coast when the flood is more than 1.5 meters higher than normal.
