Owlcat Games, the development studio of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Traderis using thegenerative artificial intelligence For to accelerate some internal processes of the development of his next title.
We are talking about a developer known and loved in the field of hardcore role-playing games, to whom we also owe Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Path of the Righteous.
The news was learned after the publication of a job advert for a concept artist who has experience in the use of generative artificial intelligence tools, such as Midjourney and DALL-E, to create conceptual art. Naturally, players didn't take it well, because they fear for the quality of the company's next game.
Acceleration
Owlcat's response to the controversy was very direct: artificial intelligence was not used in previous and already published games, including Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, but in current projects, still unannounced, it is being used. However, the mention of artificial intelligence has been removed from them job advertisementsto avoid misunderstandings.
It was further explained that AI will only be used for additional conceptualization work and to accelerate some internal processes. There final version of the game will not contain AI-generated images or assets. The same will apply to the final artwork. “Everything will be original and designed by professional artists,” concluded Owlcat.
In a second post it was reiterated that human artists will not be replaced with neural networks and that all game art will be created by real people: “we use neural networks to look for inspiration before creating concepts for our next project, which is currently in the early stages of development and unannounced.”
