Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s daily video messages have become a feature of the Ukraine war. Again he desperately asks for help – and is harsh on Russia.
KIEV – Not a day goes by when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj does not address his struggling people and the world population via video message. The war in Ukraine has been going on for more than seven weeks now, and there is no end in sight to the hostilities. The ruthless actions of the Russian leadership are being criticized more and more every day. Selenskyj himself causes a stir with a flaming reckoning against the Kremlin.
War in Ukraine: Russia tries to blame Ukrainians
“They are afraid to admit that for decades they have taken wrong positions and expended colossal resources to support human zeros they wanted to build as future heroes of the Ukrainian-Russian friendship,” the 44-year-old said in an address April 10 to understand. Moscow’s attempt to establish its own loyal people in Ukraine had failed miserably, Zelenskyj continued to argue. These people “were only used to stuffing money from Russia into their own pockets,” the president said.
In general, in his eyes, the war is only a tool used by the Russian leadership to cover up its own mistakes. According to Zelensky, Russia is making new mistakes in order to eradicate old ones. Even when blaming the current events, the opponent knows no truth: “They grabbed Crimea, we are supposedly to blame for that.” Russia destroyed every normal life in the Donbass, the 44-year-old went on to say, people there for eight years killed and yet always blamed Ukraine. “And finally they started a large-scale war against us, and again we are to blame,” said Zelenskyj, summing up the first part of his speech.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy: Urgent Appeal to the World Community
“They justify themselves and deny. You deny any responsibility. You lie,” the Ukrainian president continued his reckoning. Russia is trying to evade responsibility, many people are only repeating what they have learned from the state-affiliated media. “And they have strayed so far from reality that they are accusing us of what the Russian army actually did,” Zelenskyy complained in no uncertain terms, referring to what happened in Bucha, where Russian soldiers allegedly killed hundreds of civilians a few weeks ago have shot.
Ultimately, Russia and its leadership around President Vladimir Putin are acting out of “sheer cowardice,” the 44-year-old concluded his speech: “When people lack the courage to admit mistakes, to apologize, to adapt to reality, they turn into monsters.” Again he used the video message to appeal to the world community and urged them to take action: “And if the world ignores this, the monsters decide that the world must adapt to them.” One day, Zelenskyj assured then firmly, Russia will have to admit the truth behind the war.
