The forest fires, which began several days ago, threaten the outskirts of Vinadel Mar and Valparaíso, two coastal tourist cities.
The Chilean authorities imposed a curfew starting at nine in the evening in the most affected areas and deployed army personnel to help firefighters stop the spread of the fires, while helicopters sprayed water in an attempt to extinguish the flames from the air.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric declared national mourning for two days, starting Monday.
According to the authorities, hundreds of people are missing, and the number of damaged homes exceeds a thousand.
