The Bugatti Bolide is insane. Not only because of its appearance, but because it uses Bugatti's monster of an engine: the 1,600 hp 8.0-liter W16 engine with four turbos from the Chiron. It is perhaps the best powertrain ever in a hypercar. So now that engine is strapped to a race car with the weight of a Porsche 911.
The Bolide uses a race car chassis and has a new carbon fiber monocoque that has passed FIA safety testing. The ferocious engine and unique suspension are complemented by panels of, you guessed it, carbon fiber. The carriage is designed in such a way that the Bolide generates three tons of downforce at its top speed. Which, by the way, is 365 km/h, when the Bolide is tuned to produce as much downforce as possible.
Bugatti only builds 40 units of this Bolide and they each cost four million euros. Top Gear is the first non-Bugatti employee to take a seat in the track car. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to get behind the wheel today. That honor goes to Bugatti test driver and Le Mans winner Andy Wallace. Watch the video below to see how we do our best not to throw up in the Bugatti Bolide.
