The Israeli army spokesman for the Arab media, Avichay Adraee, said in a post on his account in “X”: “Earlier today, an IDF plane accurately eliminated the so-called Muhammad Abu Hasna, a Hamas terrorist in the operations section of the Rafah area. The raid was carried out based on Accurate intelligence information was received from the Military Intelligence Authority and the General Security Service.”
Adraei added: “Abu Hasna was coordinating large-scale activities of the various Hamas units, and he was in contact with Hamas field elements and was operating them. Abu Hasna also assumed responsibility for an intelligence operations room whose goal was to fulfill reports on the Defense Army forces in preparation for targeting them.”
He continued, saying: “Abu Hasna is known as one of the members of the military support system affiliated with the military wing of Hamas, and he was involved in seizing humanitarian aid equipment and distributing it to Hamas elements.”
He concluded his post with a video of the assassination of Abu Hasna, stressing that: “His precise elimination constitutes a tangible blow to the function of the various Hamas units in Rafah.”
The name of Muhammad Abdel Halim Abu Hasna appears on the list of five people killed in the airstrike provided by Gaza health officials.
UNRWA said earlier that one of its facilities was bombed in Rafah, which houses more than half of Gaza's population of 2.3 million people.
UNRWA added that at least one of its employees was among the five killed and that 22 others were injured, despite sharing the facility’s coordinates with the Israeli army.
UNRWA Director General Philippe Lazzarini commented on the incident, saying: “Today’s attack on one of the few remaining UNRWA distribution centers in the Gaza Strip comes at a time when food supplies are running out and hunger is spreading, turning into famine in some areas.”
The war broke out when Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, which it says killed 1,200 people and took 253 hostages.
Health authorities in the Gaza Strip say that Israel then launched an air, sea and land attack that killed more than 31,000 Palestinians.
Since the outbreak of war in Gaza, violence has also escalated in the West Bank with the intensification of Israeli military raids and Palestinian attacks in the streets.
